The holidays are over and I am back in the studio again. This is a painting that I completed just before Christmas. I sat down yesterday and wrote out my goals and objectives for my painting career for 2012. It is always a great exercise to do that gets you motived for the year ahead. Happy New Year!

With a household that is centred around skiing (including my husband's job), we are starting to get a little antsy. Bring on the snow!! In the mean time, I will get my fix on the canvas...

This is one of the square footers that I chose to keep (well actually my son Max requested it). I took a series of photos at the top of Blue Mountain this fall, which had some great birch trees, set among the dark forest, and along with the last of the season's coloured leaves. I imagine these photos will be fodder for quite a few paintings.

As the biannual Square Foot Show approaches at the Loft Gallery (opens November 18th), I endeavour to paint a large number of these 12"x12" paintings. My favourite part (beside the freeing feeling that I can really "play" with this size canvas - versus painting a much larger one where I definitely tighten up), is lining up all finished pieces. It is like looking a a number of little "gems". Very satisfying! This was my first one painted for the show, but I just may have to keep it for myself...

Fall is here and the colours are amazing. I had a great Art Tour weekend over Thanksgiving, and even got out plein air painting in the Beaver Valley on Friday with a friend. This is the painting I completed that day from the top of Beaver Valley Ski Club, looking out towards Old Baldy (part of the Niagara Escarpment).

This Canadian Thanksgiving weekend (Oct 8-10) marks the beginning of another local studio and gallery tour of my region. Tour of the Arts, in Thornbury, Clarksburg and Kimberley, Ontario opens artists studios (and galleries) to the public, with a chance to see behind the scenes artist activity! As always I will be located at the Loft Gallery in Clarksburg, giving painting demonstrations each day of the weekend from 11am - 5pm, along with Debra Lynn Carroll and Laurie DeCamillis. I also have a number of new fall works hanging in the gallery. Hope to see you there!

This Friday, August 5, I will be part of Creemore Inspired Art Crawl, the summer event that combines great art and dining the first Friday evening of each month in the summer (July, Aug & Sept). Four local galleries (Moyaboya, Mad and Noisy Gallery, The Maplestone Gallery and Curiosity House) will be open late, along with Chez Michel with a special apres-art menu.

I will be located at Moyaboya, at 146 Mill Street in Creemore. I will have a number of new paintings that I am unveiling that evening. I will be painting on site from 6-9pm. If you are in the area, this is definitely an event you will want to attend, it is a lot of fun!

This Thursday, June 2 is the opening reception for the 2011 Murray Clerkson Award. I along with four other artist finalists will have our work on display in the Clerkson Room of the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts Centre in Collingwood, Ontario. The reception runs from 5-7pm, and the winner of the Clerkson Award will be announced then. If you are in the area, you are welcome to join us. If you can't make it then, the show will be up for the month of June at the Arts Centre. This painting is one of the paintings I will have on display at the show.

I'm back from vacation in Palm Springs, CA to visit the folks. It was great to enjoy some hot weather. Since I got back I've been immersed in finishing up the studio. I moved in this week, and have begun painting there. So exciting! I will post photos of it soon.
